Biography
Taylor Hubbard is a second-year PhD student in Literature, Criticism & Textual Studies. She currently serves the English department as the Vice Chair of the GSE. She specializes in medieval literature and Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies. She is interested in studying the portrayal of the monstrous woman in classical, medieval, and renaissance texts, particularly in the epic poem, to trace the real, lasting effects of these portrayals on women in society. She is fascinated by the way male authors tend to describe the woman’s body as a symbol of desire or disgust, particularly when these descriptions involve the womb.
She studied at East Tennessee State University prior to coming to UTK where she acquired two bachelor’s degrees, a master’s degree, and two years of adjunct work teaching FYC and sophomore literature courses. Outside of academia, Taylor enjoys watching horror films, pleasure reading, studying apocalyptic media in film or novel form, gaming with friends, and spending time with her cats. She is also very active in the East Tennessee community, serving as the Assistant Director of the Miss East Tennessee Scholarship Organization and always trying to give back to a community that has provided for her throughout her life.
