“Mysticism, Heresy, and Witchcraft”

The Marco Institute for Medieval and Renaissance Studies is excited to announce its first undergraduate conference in Medieval and Renaissance Studies. The conference will be held on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Friday, April 8, 2011. The theme for the conference is “Mysticism, Heresy, and Witchcraft,” but papers addressing any topic within the areas of Medieval and Renaissance Studies are gladly welcomed. The conference is open to undergraduate students throughout North America. Those interested in participating in this conference should email a short abstract (200 words) for a paper of 15-20 minutes (7-8 pages) to conference organizer Jenny Bledsoe at jbledso4@utk.edu by Friday, February 18, 2011. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by Monday, February 28, 2011.

A plenary speaker will be announced soon. Five $100 travel grants will be awarded to non-UT students on a competitive basis. A $15 registration fee will be collected on the day of the conference.

In addition to the Marco Institute, this conference is also sponsored by the University of Tennessee’s Office of Research, Chancellor’s Honors Program, Department of History, Department of English, Department of Religious Studies, College of Architecture and Design, and Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures.
