Biography

Josh Mangle (They/he) is a PhD student pursing their degree in literature, criticism, and textual studies with a focus on Medieval literature through the Department of English. They received their Master’s Degree in English with an emphasis in Medieval Literature from Winthrop University and BA in English and Creative Writing at the College of Charleston. Their dissertation, entitled “A Love so Legendary: Queering the Prose Lancelot,” explores the homoromantic and homoerotic nature of the bonds between male knights in early chivalric romance and how those bonds are constructed to idealize the gendered power structure of Camelot. Josh is also interested in medievalism as it applies to race and gender in video games and science fiction.

Josh is currently the Public Humanities Fellow for the Marco Institute. They have served as the graduate student chair on the board for the Southeastern Medieval Association. Josh has been awarded the W. E. B. Dubois fellowship as well as Owens-Keenan Dissertation Fellowship. Last year Josh was a RACEB4RACE Social Media Fellow.
